Luckily the base port for the RT-N16 is already done and there’s a fairly extensive (though outdated and at times inaccurate) entry for the RT-N16 on the OpenWRT wiki. I was able to load the Barrier Breaker 14.07 build on my RT-N16 but only one of the ethernet ports worked… I decided to try a newer OpenWRT

Download the firmware located here: dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_RT-N16.trx Do a factory reset in the Asus GUI. Let the router reboot. Every time they switch to another router it takes about 4-8 seconds to establish a new connection. I read that OpenWRT had 802.11r support so I figured I would give it a shot on my home router first. When we first began adding DNSthingy functionality to existing high-performance routers, OpenWRT was an obvious win.
